Magnificent landscapes, breathtaking waterfalls, so many superlatives for this country! Horses in the middle of nowhere, photos at every corner of the road, in short, a surprising country! Here is our roadmap step by step for 8 days in Iceland….

Lunch at Vik next to the church and then a walk on the road to Pakgil, breathtaking landscapes but we could only drive 7 km.
Then descent to Reynisfjara, the famous black sand beach with its basalt organs…
Night stay at Carina hotel close to Vik. Very nice place to stay close to the beach. Nice welcome and we even got a room with sea view 😉 !
Day 3: Departure on Route 1 with a stop in Laufskálavarða.
According to tradition, there was a large farm called Laufskalar there. This farm was destroyed in 894 by the first recognized eruption of Katla volcano. All travellers who pass through this area for the first time are supposed to lay down a stone for good luck on their journey. As a result, this place is composed of several hundred small cairns that give a surrealist aspect to this place.
Second quick stop on Route 1 at Skaftafeldaraun, a set of small moss domes
Then third stop in Kirkjugolf and Dverghamrar before starting a good part of the road to Svartifoss
45 min walk to admire the amazing waterfall amidst the basalt organs, followed by a one hour walk to admire the Skaftafellsjökull glacier
To finish off this magnificent day in style, stop at Fjallsárlón, Jokulsarlon’s little brother and then Jokulsarlon.
Day 7: Tour of the Vatnsnes peninsula with a very nice viewpoint at Borgarvirki then at Hvitserkur, and on the west, seal observation.
Then, head south with a little road 1 for a break in height at Borgarfjordur.
Quick stop in Reykholt, then arrival at the Borgarnes guesthouse
Day 8: Day trip to Reykjavik to finish this beautiful journey and end of the loop. Night in another hotel than the one on the way: By the lighthouse, a strategic location 18km from the airport. A studio with an independent kitchen to make your own meal (restaurants are very expensive in Iceland so it is very interesting to have the kitchen at the same time as the accommodation)
